I'm in love.
For some reason, I had never seen this work by Gerhard Richter before. When I came across it last week on a blog, I was blown away. Enough said.

on loneliness
The ideas from my undergrad thesis were largely about loneliness and my inability to properly explain and define what that word has meant to me throughout my life. Our loneliness--both as individuals and as members of a larger society--still interests me greatly, so I was quite happy to come across this interview from The Believer magazine. There are a lot of interesting ideas discussed, and I now feel a bit more inspired today.

Dream Songs
"Soth attributes his mid-western upbringing to a sensibility that is more 'dark and lonely' than optimistic. He referred me to the poet John Berryman, who leapt to his death from a Mississippi River bridge in January of 1972. Soth particularly noted Berryman's 'Dream Song 1' and its last line, 'and empty grows every bed.' Most of the beds in Soth's pictures are empty, simultaneously evoking all past and future nights as well as past and future occupants, fueling our imagination about their stories and their fates."
